Splendour In the Grass Fever has hit Woodford
Well Splendour is finally here. Traffic is on the increase as the steady flow of festival tickets holders stream into town. Most locals welcome them with open arms and others are hiding out in their houses until the chaos has ended. I saw a couple in my street had the caravan hooked up ready to head out of town for the weekend.
Locals that are party-goers they are in 7th heaven. Locals that haven’t got tickets can still join in the festivities at the Woodford Pub that has a band playing on Friday night. The ever so popular band Mumford and Sons starts from 3.30pm onwards. The excitement that is buzzing through the air of Woodford is felt all around.I am one of the ones looking forward to this event.
Woodford Show grounds letting out camping sites has been a saviour for many ticket holders looking desperately for camping spot near the festival. Approximately 1400 campers are booked into the Woodford Show grounds. Unfortunately those that are still looking are out of luck as it is now fully booked and they are taking no more campers.
Worthy cause Australia a non profit organisation are setting a coffee van up at night at the Woodford Show Grounds so the campers can get steaming hot coffee when they head back from the festival to their camp ground.
Woodford Scouts will be outside IGA all weekend as Adrian Raedel pointed out on Facebook. ”Make sure you get a “big mick” sausages, bacon, cheese, egg on bread from the scouts outside the IGA all weekend”!!! . The Scouts also had campers at their shed. Woodford helped out as much as they could for any of those that needed camping.
The Catholic ladies and Woodford Pony Club are having a big breakfast for those campers at the Woodford Show Grounds. It sure will be a big breakfast for 1400 campers. Good luck to those who are cooking.
News Agency Clews News is selling phone cards all weekend for those people at the festival needing to top up there phone balance.
Dick from Thrifty Link Woodford Hardware has all the equipment campers have forgotten behind. Dick says he has had people lining outside his door since Tuesday.
Virgin Mobile has set up a stall in Woolworth’s too, they’re rumoured to be having a promotion about giving out tents. Not sure how it works if anybody knows send in a comment and for the others worth a sticky beak and going to check out yourselves.
Traffic is meant to peak tomorrow so remember to leave early to work, as you might be late. From Woodford Town onwards it will be 60 km all the way through to the festival. So stay alert, as there might be some tired drivers out there coming from all over Australia.
Here is the traffic and other updates ticket holders and local need to know.

can you believe they doing roadworks on the way into woodford today, of all days!
It has come to my attention from poor Jack the school bus driver who is doing the shuttle service from Woodford to the festival today… He says expect 1&1/2hr delays. Anybody heading there tomorrow he said “leave early”. The people coming out of streets like Iron Bark Road,Blealkly Road and Bilkara roads and others are likely to expect a long wait to get out. Jack looked hot and bothered and he still has 3 days to go.
It took 20 minutes to get to Woodford from D’Aguillar at about 3.30pm. That was before the traffic came to a complete stand still from 4.30pm onwards. There was some random guy selling felt hats from the back of his car. The Co-op looked bright and cheery with its rows and tables of funky gumboots for sale. The newcomers who were wandering about were in good spirits to be in Woodford because they had arrived from all over the east coast. The excitement is contagious as is the good spirits. Mumford and Sons at the Woodford Hotel – now that is something you can tell your grandchildren about.
I think they should have traffic control on mt mee rd and d’aguilar h’way so you can get out, the traffic was banking up this afternoon.Take ya life in ya hands and pray when you do finally get a break in the traffic.
I was shocked at how busy Woodford was!!!! The pub had people in every corner and the streets were packed… I was watching the seven news tonight and it showed an aerial shot of the Woodford traffic jam….
LOL… I am not looking forward to taking the trip to Woodfordia by car to go to Splendor, however I can’t wait to go in…
Just remember it is great for the town and it is only for a few days…Hope it all goes smoothly.
I think Splendour is a great thing for Woodford. Its only for a few days of inconvenience and brings a lot of revenue to town as well as puts us more on the map. HOpefully the organisers have noted the traffic chaos and will remedy it in future years – opening up the camping early as they do for the Folk Fest would make things a lot easier. Also, let people know that there are other ways in to the area ie:Esk.
Woodford is alive and well!!!! Bring it on!
I believe there is only one road in and out of the place, abit
more thought and planning needed.
My son and his girlfriend and seems like the rest of Australia
stuck there going nowhere.
Come on now!!
