Check out what’s happening at the Bush House

27 August 2011 One Comment

Hello fellow friends of the Bush House,

Today is a  cosy rainy Saturday.  Cozy because I am writing this with a warm cup of tea by my side, enjoying the sound of the rain falling from the leaves onto the plants below.  Here are the spring rains, and within weeks bulbs will be pushing through and life and colour will be springing into gardens everywhere.

For your enjoyment and pleasure, I’d like to share with you some of the amazing activities that are occurring through the Bush House and particularly the Inspiration Centre.

I am most excited about the SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITY for kids large and old.  Making Rag and Wire dolls from recycled material much like our grandmothers and great grandmothers would have done in the 1920s and 30s. The dolls that we create are gorgeous and precious.

The other very exciting workshop is Weaving with Rene Adele Bahloo.  Rene teaches us how to weave baskets, containers and things of beauty from plants that you may very well already have growing in your garden.  Adele’s work and philosophy is strongly influenced by her time in Arnhem Land living with the indigenous groups and learning about weaving, women’s business and working communally in joy.

 Gaia Community Garden News

You may (or may not) have noticed a humungous water tank on its side beside the Bush House.  It looks like it is wedged between the Bush House and some citrus trees but in fact is securely tied in place while the engineers and thinkers of the group work out how to get it into its place of honour next to the shed.  There has been lots of chin scratching and plans are now afoot.  Watch this space – or drop in and have a look for yourself!

Are you excited yet?  Well this is only a taste of what is to come.

Please share this information with anyone that you think would love to join us and of course we always look forward to seeing you too.

 Happy days,

Luisa (for Gaia Community Garden)
