My grandfather, John McConnel in partnership with his brother David Cameron McConnel, purchased Durundur from the Archer brothers, according to my father’s records, about 1848, having left England for Australia in 1842.
In 1861 his partnership with D.C. McConnel was dissolved and, he went to live at Durundur.
In 1873 he took H.C. Wood, after whom Woodford was named, into a partnership.
In 1882 my father, Arthur John McConnel, started a Hereford Stud at Durundur and in 1885 he bought Glencairn and Holmwood.
My grandfather imported cattle, pigs and other livestock from England and …

Sir Archibald Archer C.M.G. wrote this on 11.3.82 published in 1882-1982 From Durundur to Woodford.
The Woodford district is a rich, well developed and prosperous area in a magnificent State and we owe so much to the men and women who have made it so.
My grandfather, David Archer, was the first European to come to the Woodford district. David, with his brothers John and Tom and their employees, settled on a 60 square mile property two miles from the site of Woodford in early November, 1841. The party had over landed …

Face book has been a great way of communicating to all those stranded in Woodford and surrounding areas. It was a way to get information from the emergency worker and volunteers to the people who felt isolated and were wondering what was happening and how long they would be trapped in their homes.
Tirelessly, these emergency workers and volunteers worked from Sunday 9 January until now, still helping those in need now. The rain may have stopped for a while, but people still need help as they have lost all their …

Angela Morgan set up the Creating Health Well Being Centre about four or five years ago. She practiced Bowen Therapy and Massage. When the house behind her little shop became available she decided to join them both together to create more comfort and a bigger centre.
Helen Sattler then approached Angela offering her services, which entailed the Raindrop Technique. This technique involves energetic body balancing where essential oils are dropped along the spine and feathered out. As the essential oils are a 100% this produces synergy energy which removes blockages and pain. After the pampering treatment you will …

Wyatt Roy is very close to creating history by becoming the youngest member to be voted into Federal Parliament. With Grass Roots ‘integrity’ he all but won over the citizens of Longman. Against all odds the young politician has wisely persuaded the people of Longman that he will listen first and talk later.
While votes were still being counted Wyatt was reluctant to say he had won the seat but numbers showed he was well in the lead. Postal votes were not enough for the …

Jon Sullivan is the member for Longman, as you may know, running up against 8 other candidates for this weekend’s election. Jon is a father of two daughters and a husband of 30 years as he celebrates his 30th anniversary on the 18th August.
Jon grew up living a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. His father, being a banker, had to move to a different location every 1 to 3 years.
Jon was enrolled into boarding school, much to his dislike, but it gave him stability.
When his education was completed, as a young man …

It all started back in March at Caboolture Memorial hall. Wyatt was voted in by 80 local members of Parliament at the Local Grass Roots Democracy preselection. Wyatt was one of three Candidates.
Once voted in he was then ratified by his Liberal National Party at State Council. Initially there was talk of LNP not being happy with Wyatt running for Longman because he was to young but he now has his parties full support and they are 100% behind him. Wyatt has now been in the public eye everywhere. Being on …

As my 6 year old daughter said has the grass been Splendoured yet. Yes is the answer, not sure how she visualised that but I have a different vision of the grass been Splendoured.
From Thursday traffic chaos to Music splendour. In my opinion locals weren’t too put out for the rewards were high and a lot of businesses did reap in the profit. Sure you couldn’t get to the shops for a loaf of bread on Thursday but by Friday traffic was moving steadily and was easy to get to town.
Security was …

What a fantastic variety of music they had at Splendour. Unfortunately couldn’t make it to all shows. The big name bands brought huge crowds. People were being kept out of certain areas as they were up to its capacity, so some fans were disappointed not getting into where their favourite band was playing. One of them being the ever so popular Florence and the Machine.
Less well known bands also had packed stadiums and they got to feel what it was like to have a mass crowd watching them. I was able to get to the back stage to …
