On Friday Wyatt Roy MP Federal Member for Longman, recognised young local sports stars with grants to help their sporting efforts.
Mr Roy awarded 21 Longman Local Sporting Champions Grants to young people from across the region who had shown exceptional promise and dedication to their sport.
Each Longman Local Sporting Champion recipient received a $500 boost to help cover the costs of their competition endeavours.
Mr Roy has encouraged other young sports achievers, including local sports teams, to apply for funding under the next round of grants.

Over the weekend Wyatt Roy MP, Federal Member for Longman, hosted the inaugural Longman Youth Leadership Forum, coinciding with National Youth Week activities.
Thirty young people from across the region became the first ‘LYLFers’ as they participated in a two day programme including exciting guest speakers and interesting community projects.
Mr Roy said the weekend had been both fun and inspiring and the LYLFers had taken away new skills and enhanced leadership capabilities.

The Shed will be open from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon for Gents only to indulge in normal Shed activities.

Senator for Queensland Mark Furner has welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Defence Science and Personnel Minister Warren Snowdon that a new pin of recognition for defence families would be issued.
“This is a terrific initiative with the new pin to recognise the special role family members take on when our military personnel serve abroad,” Senator Furner said.

It was a great turn out at Woodford Memorial Park for Anzac Day. There were around 300 people who attended the service and march. The march started at 10 am and service opened with Reverent Ken Steer saying an opening prayer.

Fifty-four year six students from St Paul’s Lutheran Primary School are preparing for an adventure of their lives to Carnarvon Gorge later this month.
The trip will include camping in tents, visits to beautiful Carnarvon Gorge, viewing Indigenous artworks in natural settings, and “lots of hiking”, said year six teacher John Smith.
“They’re starting to get excited about it now as we’re looking at these places on the internet and checking what attractions they have to offer and what the students will see and do when we get there,” Mr Smith said.
